With all of that said, we have made the decision to change the Core format to two years of legality. This change will be effective with the release of Aftermath: Throne of the Tides. Day 1 of our 2011 World Championships will be a combination of this Core format and Classic, both to test the skill of our best players in a variety of formats and to show our commitment to all of our official formats. Though our primary format will continue to be Core, we will continue to support Classic. Ry Schueller will be explaining the World Championship formats, along with additional support for Classic, more thoroughly in the Organized Play blog.

Also, there are a few cards from years past that we wanted to bring back. We don’t feel our expansions are an appropriate place to reprint rares and epics, for a variety of reasons. Therefore, we will be reprinting them through the 2011 Fall Class Starters as special inserts. These will be extremely rare (roughly one rare or epic reprint per box of Class Starters) and will be legal for Core upon the release of the starters (October 2011, before the World Championships) and tied to Worldbreaker block for the purposes of Core. That list is:

2011-2012 Upcoming Organized Play Events/Formats

Darkmoon Faire Poznań (August 25–August 28): This event occurs before the release of Throne of the Tides, and the main event will here will the three-block version of Core.

PAX Prime (August 26–August 28): We have a full schedule of events for Seattle’s biggest game festival.

2011 State Championships (September 17–18): This North American program will be Worldbreaker Block Constructed.

Darkmoon Faire Philadelphia (September 30–October 2): Friday will offer players a first look at the Aftermath Block, during the Throne of the Tides Sneak Preview. The main event this weekend is Worldbreaker Block Constructed. Throughout the weekend, players will be able to participate in Draft Rally events to catch up on Goblin Biker cards they’ve missed before the Goblins of Anarchy Showdowns.

BlizzCon (October 21–22): Cryptozoic Entertainment will be out in full force at BlizzCon this year, and we’ll have Throne of the Tides Sealed Pack and Spectral Safari events for the biggest World of Warcraft weekend hosted each year.

Goblins of Anarchy Showdowns (November 5–November 6): This event occurs after the launch of Throne of the Tides, and will be one of the first places that players can play with the new post-rotation Core format. Deck construction for this event includes the Gold Bordered Goblin Biker cards.

2011 World Championship (November 10–13): The main event’s format is listed above. Several side events and Darkmoon Faire Rotterdam will also be held during this weekend.

Realm Championships Season 7 (January 2012–April 2012): Qualifier Season will be split between Core Constructed and Sealed play. The Championships in April will be split format like years prior, with Core format and Draft play.

2012 Darkmoon Faires: We’ll have a full schedule of Darkmoon Faires in 2012 ready to announce at the 2011 World Championship in November. At least one of these will have a Classic format main event, and you’ll find Classic mixed in with your favorite Darkmoon Faire side events at every DMF.
